2006-2007 Wisconsin Junior Open

November 4-5, 2006

FORMAT This event is open to all chess players age 20 & under, born after Nov. 4, 1982. This year the event will feature four sections. The Open Section is open to all and is USCF membership required. The Reserve Section is open to anyone rated under 1100 or unrated and is USCF membership required. The Non-Rated, Beginner’s Section will be split into grade K-6 and grade 7-12 sections and are open to anyone but the intent of this section is to introduce players to formal tournaments and USCF membership is not required. If needed USCF membership may be purchased at the site. Wisconsin Chess Association membership is included in the entry.

PLAYING SITE The playing rooms are the Badger State and University Rooms of the Gruenhagen Conference Center, UW-Oshkosh, corner of High and Osceola St., Oshkosh, WI 54901. Full service dorm rooms are available for lodging at $30 one or two per room. Student service dorm rooms are available for lodging at $22 one or two per room. REGISTRATION Players may register by mail using the form below. Registration will be accepted at the site from 8:45-9:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 4. Please bring your USCF ID card or be prepared to purchase or renew your membership during late registration. A Youth membership (age 19 and under) is $25 and includes monthly issues of Chess Life. A Scholastic membership (age 14 and under) is $19 and includes six issues of Chess Life For Kids. If purchasing memberships at www.uschess.org, please bring proof of purchase! Please bring your chess clock. Chess sets and boards are provided in playing room only! Bring your own sets for the skittle’s room. SCHEDULE The 2006-2007 Wisconsin Junior Open is a five-round Swiss-System event. Under Swiss-System rules all players play five games! Rounds are at 10:15 A.M., 2:30 P.M. and 7:15 P.M. on Saturday. Sunday’s rounds are at 10:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. The time control is Game in 120 minutes. If needed, one ½-point bye is available for round 1, 2, 3 or 4 if requested in advance.

All entries paid later are $5 more. If you pre-register but then can not play, your entry will be refunded to you only if you notify the tournament director by 9:30 A.M. on November 4. Please make checks payable to the Wisconsin Chess Association.

PRIZES Fifty-eight top quality trophies are unconditionally guaranteed for the following place and rating class prizes:

  • Open: Top five places, top three each 1300, 1200, 1100 and under 1100 and top four unrated.
  • Reserve: Top five places, top three each 900, 800, 700 and under 700 and top four unrated.
  • Non-Rated Beginner’s Section: Top eight places in each section.

All prizes will be awarded at the site after the final round. In case of ties, trophies will be awarded based on Solkoff, Cumulative, Sum of Opponent’s Cumulative and Sonneborn-Berger tie-break systems.

SPECIAL NOTES The Open Section winner will be recognized as the 2006-2007 Wisconsin Junior Open Champion and receive a free entry into the 2006 Wisconsin State Championship. The top high school finisher will be eligible to participate in the 2007 Arnold Denker Tournament of High School Championships. The top finishing girl will be eligible to participate in the 2007 Susan Polgar Scholastic Girls Championship. Both of these national events will be held in conjunction with the U.S. Open in Cherry Hill, New Jersey in August 2007. If a tie exists among those desiring to participate in the Denker or Polgar, a series of playoff matches will be held on Sunday night beginning ½ hour after the last game among the participants is concluded. Format is two G/30, then if still tied, two G/15, then G/10, then G/5.
